When did the 2026 school year start? +
Term 1 began on Friday, 2 January 2026 for Primary 1 and K1 (Primary 2 to 6 and K2 started Monday, 5 January). The year runs across four terms in two semesters, ending when Term 4 closes on Friday, 20 November 2026.
When are the June school holidays in 2026? +
The mid-year (June) holidays run from Saturday, 30 May to Sunday, 28 June 2026, about four weeks. It is the longest break apart from the year-end holidays.
When do the year-end school holidays start in 2026? +
The year-end holidays begin on Saturday, 21 November 2026 and run to 31 December, about six weeks. For a child entering Primary 1 in 2027, this is the break right before they start.
When is Chinese New Year in 2026? +
Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 February 2026, both public holidays. As both fall on weekdays there is no separate day in lieu.
How many school terms are there in a year? +
There are four terms, grouped into two semesters. Each term is roughly ten weeks, with a one-week break after Terms 1 and 3, a four-week break in June, and a six-week break at year-end.
Things to do in each school break
The dates shift from year to year, but the rhythm stays the same: two one-week breathers, a month in the middle of the year, and a long stretch at the end. Here is how families commonly use each one, whichever year's calendar you are looking at.
March · one week
A short breather, not a project
A week goes quickly, so pick one or two things rather than filling every day. The National Library Board runs school-holiday programmes at the public libraries, museums are an easy half-day, and a park connector or nature walk costs nothing. Leave space to rest; the break is a reset before Term 2, not a second school term.
June · four weeks
Room for one proper block
Four weeks is long enough for a real stint: a week of sports camp or a swim intensive early in the break (Sport Singapore's ActiveSG runs school-holiday sport programmes), then a slower stretch of library reading, museum exhibitions and outdoor time at the parks, reservoirs and beaches. If you are travelling, the middle weeks are the usual window. Try not to schedule all four weeks; unstructured play is part of the point.
September · one week
Same shape as March
Another one-week pause, this time before the final term. Keep it simple: a library programme or two, one museum or nature outing, and plenty of downtime. For older siblings facing year-end checkpoints, a gentle revision rhythm helps, but for a lower-primary child rest is still the main event.
December · about six weeks
The long one, and for some the P1 runway
Mix it across the weeks: a camp or swim intensive, generous outdoor and nature time, library visits, and family trips if you are going away. If your child starts Primary 1 in January, this break doubles as the preparation window, and the everyday routines matter more than any academic head start.
